Couple celebrate golden wedding anniversary in their new Pentland home

After becoming the first residents to move in to Pentland Homes’ Scholars’ Village development on Park Farm Road, Philip and Elizabeth Talbot quickly became an integral part of the onsite community. It’s no surprise that Pentland Homes staff, who have been frequently invited in to the couple’s new home for home-cooked meals, were more than ready to celebrate when they discovered that on 2nd October the couple would be celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary.

Mr and Mrs Talbot met as teenagers in Girl Guides and Scouts, shortly after both their families moved to Folkestone in the 1950s. Mrs Talbot fondly remembers her future husband as a boy in “long shorts and tri-corner hats.”

They were married at the former Methodist Church on Grace Hill in 1965, and have been active members of the Folkestone community for decades, with Mrs Talbot still acting as an invigilator for Folkestone Academy.

After more than 30 years in their large family home in Hawkinge, the couple decided to downsize, and following a spontaneous visit to Pentland Homes’ Hawkinge office on a rainy afternoon, were told about the upcoming Scholars Village development.

After reserving their new home from plan, the couple visited their plot once a week to photograph its construction. As the first residents to move in, the Talbots state that they have found it “fascinating” to watch the site progress, and how quickly the development is taking shape.

They will be celebrating their 50 years together with an informal, low key affair, with 60 of their closest friends and family invited to afternoon tea at their local church hall. Relatives have travelled from all over the UK, and as far as Spain and Canada, to celebrate this milestone. On Sunday morning, Mrs Talbot jokes that they will be “taking over” Sunday service at the Methodist Church on Sandgate Road, with family members leading prayers and reading lessons, followed by more celebrations.

Scholars Village is a development of two, three and four bedroom homes, adjacent to Park Farm Road in Folkestone. It is Pentland Homes’ fastest selling development to date, with over 40% already sold. The Marketing Suite is open Thursday-Monday 9am-5pm.
