The energy performance figures have been updated in line with Government’s latest EPC data release

The updated energy efficiency performance data for newly constructed homes has been released, aligning with the latest release of Government’s EPC data.

The analysis, based on Government’s most recent EPC data released on April 25, 2024, evaluates potential energy bill savings of new homes compared to older ones.

Additionally, the Policy team has forecasted the potential cost and energy savings of homes built to Part L standards. Key highlights include:

  • The average energy bill for new homes is 57% lower than that of older properties, resulting in potential savings of up to £1,685 annually for homeowners.
  • New houses are, on average, 66% more energy efficient, translating to potential savings of £183 per month or £2,195 per year in energy costs.
  • New flats demonstrate an average energy efficiency improvement of 45%, potentially saving homeowners up to £71 per month or over £850 per year in energy expenses.
  • Maisonettes built anew are approximately 56% more energy efficient, potentially saving homeowners £120 per month or over £1,440 annually in energy bills.
  • Bungalows built recently are about 62% more energy efficient, potentially saving homeowners £124 per month or over £1,480 annually in energy expenses.
  • Properties constructed to new sustainability standards are estimated to save homeowners over £2,000 annually on energy bills, with houses specifically potentially saving up to £2,575.
  • The trend shows an increasing number of new builds achieving an A or B EPC rating, with 85% meeting these standards, compared to less than 5% of older properties.
